The NS, or Name Server records of a domain name, show which servers handle the Domain Name System (DNS) records for it. Setting the name servers of a given hosting provider for your domain address is the most effective way to direct it to their system and all its sub-records will be handled on their end. This includes A (the IP address of the server/website), MX (mail server), TXT (free text), SRV (services), CNAME (forwarding), etc, so, in case you need to modify any of these records, you're going to be able to do it using their system. In other words, the NS records of a domain name reveal the DNS servers that are authoritative for it, so when you try to open a web address, the DNS servers are contacted to get the DNS records of the domain you want to reach. That way the website that you'll see will be retrieved from the proper location. The name servers normally have a prefix “ns” or “dns” and each domain address has at least 2 NS records. There is no sensible difference between the two prefixes, so what kind a website hosting provider will use depends completely on their preference.

NS Records in Shared Web Hosting

If you use a Linux shared web hosting package from our us and you add a new domain within the account or transfer an existing one from another provider, you're going to be able to handle its NS records with ease through the Hepsia hosting CP, provided with all shared accounts. You'll be able to change the current name servers or enter additional ones for a single domain or even for a group of domain addresses simultaneously with several clicks. This is done via the feature-rich Domain Manager tool which is a part of Hepsia and the user-friendly interface is going to make it easy to handle your domain name even if it is the first one you have ever registered. It takes just a click to see what name servers a domain name uses at the moment or if they're the correct ones to direct a domain name to the hosting space on our end and with a few mouse clicks more you will even be able to register private name servers for any one of the domain names that you own. For the latter option you can use the IPs of each company that you'd like the new NS records to direct to.

NS Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The name servers for every domain name that is registered through our company can be changed with no more than a few mouse clicks using the advanced, although easy-to-use Hepsia CP included with all semi-dedicated server plans. It's just as easy to see the current NS records for a specific domain name and to determine if they're the ones that are needed for the domain to be pointed to your hosting account. The Domain Manager tool, which is a part of Hepsia, is user-friendly enough to enable you to manage any domain name easily even if you haven't dealt with such matters before. If you'd like, you can also register private name servers ns1.your-domain.com and ns2.your-domain.com and use them not only for the domain address under which they're set up, but also for any other domain name that you would like to host inside the very same account. This feature is very handy if you have clients of your own and you would like their web sites to use your own name servers rather than our default ones. The service is available free of charge.
