If you'd like to point a domain name that you have to a different domain or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain it's pointed to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the website that you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the visitors from various subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this type of a record created for the main domain makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Web Hosting

Creating a CNAME record using our Linux shared web hosting packages is really easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel features a section committed to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in only a few basic steps. There is also a video tutorial inside the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you a number of options - if you build a company website on our end, for instance, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you choose to set up an Internet site through a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you are able to set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain, so all your customers are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

You're going to be able to set up, change and delete CNAME records really easy with all of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are controlled via the custom Hepsia hosting Control Panel, and in one of its sections you will see all records for any domain address or subdomain that you have added in your account. To create a new record, you simply need to choose the hostname which will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), input where it is going to be forwarded to, choose the record type, that'll be CNAME in this case, and you will be all set. Even if you have never used a web hosting service before, our CP is very intuitive to use, so you will not have any difficulties. We also have a short video and a detailed help article regarding how to set up a CNAME record, both of which are available in the same section of Hepsia. With this feature, you could easily use a domain hosted on our cutting edge cloud hosting platform for a site created elsewhere, set up a custom webmail login address with any of your domain addresses, plus much more.
