The dot SE country-code domain extension was established in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was pretty restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were purchased. Persons were permitted to obtain only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a prerequisite, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, businesses and organizations could secure a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened notably and, as a consequence, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.

Presently, anyone can reserve a .SE domain, which allows you to contact the Swedish net community even if you do not have a local presence.
